Description:

This remarkably large pigeon (At least 5 lbs and 20+ inches) would leap out of high branches and land virtually on top of visitors to the zoo. He scared many small children and old ladies and seemed to be having the time of his life.

Interesting fact: The name commemorates the British monarch, Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom. The pigeon that would be queen!
This bird is not native to New York (sadly we only have less majestic pigeons), it is native to New Guinea, I saw it at a zoo.
Aha, I didn't notice that it was in a zoo! I didn't think a bird like that would do very well in the wilds of New York City. Still a gorgeous bird & photo though!!
Absolutely stunning bird...and picture! Looks like something you'd only see in some exotic jungle, not New York. Are they common there? The beauty and diversity of bird species always amazes me!! (well, of all life, actually).
