Field Notes

Description:

Gray insect about 1 1/2 cm long with segmented abdomen and red eyes. When it knew I was watching, it started rocking back and forth and slowly walked away. It then jumped to a nearby branch. It does not have wings. Last image shows it laying low trying to hide.

Habitat:

This hopper was on an unknown leaf in backyard. Next to Sophonia orientalis and Scaphytopius sp. Leafhoppers.

Notes:

I believe this is in its fifth instar but possibly its fourth.

@Darwinist, You were right! It's a Glassy-Winged Sharpshooter Nymph! I didn't think a nymph could be so big :) Thanks again.
Thank you both. Darwinist, I have the suggested Sharpshooter on a different spotting at: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7196898 I even have a video of it doing some sharpshooting :)
Looks like a sharpshooter. Not sure of the exact species. They are related to leaf hoppers.
