Field Notes

Description:

The Griffon Vulture is 93–110 cm (37–43 in) long with a 230–280 cm (91–111 in) wingspan; it weighs between 6 and 13 kg (13.2 and 29 lb). Hatched naked, it is a typical Old World vulture in appearance, with a very white head, very broad wings and short tail feathers. It has a white neck ruff and yellow bill. The buff body and wing coverts contrast with the dark flight feathers. Like other vultures, it is a scavenger, feeding mostly from carcasses of dead animals which it finds by soaring over open areas, often moving in flocks. It grunts and hisses at roosts or when feeding on carrion. Source-Wikipedia.

Habitat:

Seen near dense forests.

Notes:

Seen a couple feeding on a carcass, but it was far so I could not recognize that they were Vultures. Had to crop the images to get a better understanding.

Edited few pics and uploaded them as No 1 & No 2, they are bad but at least they bring out the colour and help in identification.
Thanks dungeonmasterShu and Daniele. I will get photoshop, it will take some time till I order and get it. Actually these were very large files till I cropped them. Thanks for the site Daniele. Will take some time to learn to edit these, but will surely try my best. The problem is I have already reduced the size so I don't know what will turn up now, but will try nevertheless
Satyen, RAW is a minimally processed file format which contains all information as seen by you camera sensor. RAW files are large, and not all cameras support it so I wouldn't know if yours does. Broadly speaking they contain more detailed information than a JPEG file. Typically your camera maker will provide a RAW converting software to read these files. For professional images I use Adobe Photoshop, but it is not free, and I am certainly not suggesting you get it. Again these pics are OK the way they are! You can find out more here: http://www.digital-photography-school.com/raw-vs-jpeg
Satyen: you could try adobephotoshop or corelphotopaint which are the most common windows apps, or you could use thegimp which is a linux package but has been ported to windows... thegimp is free for download, google it.
Kindly let me know what I can use and how? I did not understand RAW files? To brin g out the colour and details I had already used fix image tab in windows live photo gallery. I also have MO picture manager. Should I use some other programme? Kindly suggest as I am a layman when it comes to editing the pics.
It is precious anyway Satyen! Do you by any chance have access to any image software? I believe you could retrieve much of the bird's plumage colour and texture from the second and third shot, especially if you have RAW files. Not that it is needed to identify it :-)
Thanks Daniele this may be the first one on Noah, but I know that some people have seen this one exactly at the same place.
From what I can see this is the only spotting we have on Noah of an Eurasian Griffon in India Satyen. Well done!
