Field Notes

Description:

Leaf fold. I think this is some type of caterpillar that folds up a leaf to surround itself and may hibernate over winter in this self made hibernaculum. Unable to identify the caterpillar, but the leaf is Virginia Creeper, I think.

Habitat:

Edge of some woods in southeastern PA USA

I think I might be missing part of the link. When I click on it I get a message that says that page is not found. Can you repost?
I took some photo's of a spider that had a web and while taking the pictures I scared it and it went into a folded leaf......the pictures are here: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7226355...the last one in the series is the spider in the end of the folded leaf.
How did you find out it was a spider and not a caterpillar?
I've seen this before and thought caterpillar also. Turned out to be a spider.
