Field Notes

Description:

bold pattern of eyespots and white bars on the upper wing surface

Habitat:

open areas with low vegetation and some bare ground

Notes:

I spotted this at Baden Powell park. The Buckeye is one of the most amazing butterflies I first learned about on Noah a few months ago. I've wanted to see one ever since and today my dream came true. I was actually photographing a Pearl Crescent when this Buckeye just seemed to pop up out of nowhere. I chased it around for the next 10 minutes while it constantly flew around and landed. These were the best shots I could get before it flew way off the trail and out of reach. I cropped some of them for a better view.

Very cool, they have a beautiful pattern that can be long appreciated after they are dead.
