Field Notes

Description:

Green plant with tall stalks with six to eight leaves growing in a circle in multiple layers. This is native to California.

Habitat:

Base of pine tree in full shade with regular watering at Lake Dixon park

Notes:

Aka Cleavers, Bedstraw, Goose Grass

I agree it does look a bit similar. Calflora doesn't have any record of it here in San Diego but that doesn't mean it isn't :) http://www.calflora.org/cgi-bin/species_query.cgi?where-calrecnum=3742
Galium triflorum leaves look broader, maybe a closer match than G. aparine. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galium_triflorum. But yes, definitely Galium.
Right again dandoucette! Thank you :) Christiane, I looked up G. odoratum and it doesn't appear to grow here. I'm quite interested in tasting it though!
Could be Galium odoratum.. the herb the Germans use to make Waldmeisterbowle (Maibowle) A drink they make for May festivals..
May not be G. aparine, but definitely a species of Galium.
