Panicled Goldenrain Tree flowers and fruit
Koelreuteria paniculata
38.7544, -77.0653
Field Notes
Description:
I spotted a “golden rain” shower as tiny yellow flowers fell to the ground from a Panicled Goldenrain Tree (Photo 3 of 3); a few weeks later, "fruit" (seed pods) appeared in place of the flowers (Photos 1 and 2 of 3). The seed pods remind me of Japanese lanterns. Goldenrain trees flower during early June in the mid-Atlantic region: Photos 1 and 2 of 3 were taken on 26 June 2010; Photo 3 of 3 was taken on 05 June 2011.
Habitat:
Landscape planting on the grounds of Mount Vernon Unitarian Church, Fairfax County, Virginia USA.
