Our North American Nerodia water snakes are often pretty aggressive but are basically non-venomous. I say "basically" because they were only recently discovered to produce a very weak venom. They will bite, but do no harm, which is good considering how common they are. They also produce a nasty smelling musk which they smear all over anyone who handles them. I've only been bitten a couple of times, but I've been musked many times. They're great snakes to have around and I always enjoy observing them.
Scott... How much venomous these small water snakes are...
In my 20 years trekking... I really blessed by them... not get attacked by them with many close encounters...!!
