Haha well you're got more experience than I do, how does that sound? As far as I see it, that's the only way anything really can be learned, by getting out there and being involved in what you love.
i'm surely no expert. but i'm glad to hear that you confuse me with one. i'm just mushroom crazy. look just since 2 years in my book and outside. learning by doing
Alright, thank you Alex! No better way to learn about identification of fungi than from experts, I really do appreciate it.
ivan i have looked on flickr.com, when i had an account i would have maked a comment there to. the one on flickr looks more likely as an amanita fulva/or crocea (just maturing). the amanita caesarea schould have a wither and bigger stem. from the coloration on flickr i would say it is an amanita crocea.
The stipe's pattern is what struck me as odd too, but I thought it could be a young Amanita c., still developing into maturity. http://www.flickr.com/photos/robertlz/2837460818/in/set-72157607190642983 But once again, the stem of Amanita c. does not match this one's...
i think it's from the genus: pholiota (alnicola {as example}) or more likely from genus galerina (pumila) . because it has those stripes on the stem, i don't think it is : amanita c. - (he also schould be bigger. cap 8-15 cm wide). This one isn't bigger than one of the fin needles.
I knew it looked familiar!! I had seen this guy before, but I was completely at a loss for the name. Caesar's mushroom, in the living flesh. Nice find! :)
