Indian Pipe
Monotropa uniflora
42.3069, -72.5116
Field Notes
Description:
Single flowered, usually with a nodding head, a ghostly translucent white devoid of chlorophyll, has been called "ghost plant," "ice plant" and "corpse plant." Grows as a parasite upon a parasite (it lives off a fungus that lives off a tree or rotting wood).
Habitat:
moist woods
Notes:
We spotted about 7 of these. Still, too rare to pick, and there are plenty of other plant medicines with the same uses/benefits. Plus, it melts in your hands and turns black right after picking, if you were to pick it!
