Field Notes

Description:

Some small mushrooms found along a hiking trail in a mixed conifer forest.

Habitat:

Growing spread apart from one another, after a time of sporadic rains. Seems to take a liking to areas with shade, and they don't mind sharing soil with mushrooms of different species.

Notes:

Pileus feels like leather, as a rubber ball. Gills turn a heavy black color upon drying, as the pileus becomes a dull yellow. The spore print is a dark brown, similair to Hershey's dark chocolate. Looks like it bruises to a darker tinge of pink after cutting.
