I caught a species of Meloe the other day and found out why they're called blister beetles. Thankfully, I caught it in a jar, and watched it secrete the blistering liquid from its leg joints--very cool.
One of the Oil Beetles. Probably a Short-winged Blister Beetle - Meloe angusticollis.
