Karen and 8bitFinch, I think you are both right! Thanks for your help in solving this one. There is another illusive little bird that I need help identifying, as soon as I can get a decent picture I will post that one. Thanks guys!
Could be though your spotting looks to be more gray than brown. Maybe a juniper titmouse? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juniper_Titmouse
Thanks Karen, but does not look like the range of the Tufted titmouse reaches to California. Do you think it could be the Oak Titmouse? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oak_Titmouse
