Simplestem bur-reed, Platanaria

Perennial semiaquatic plant, of 0,3-2 m high, with winding, crawling and leathery rhizomes. It can be distinguish due to the inflorescence, very branchy. The leaves are the prolongation of a long sheath very close fitted to the stem. They are erect, linear, graminea-like, with a triangular section at the base and flat at the tip. The flowers appear in glomerula situated in branchy inflorescences. They are unisexual with external shells, dry and papyre-like.
Seeds have 6-10 longitudinal ribs. It blooms during late spring and summer.
