Field Notes

Description:

Large dragonfly (over 2 inches), green.

Notes:

This poor creature was flopping around on the ground at my office. It clung to my finger so I took it home and took this picture and then put it in a flowerpot to finish dying, which is what I assume is happening.

Thanks AshishNimkar! I think green darner. Thanks for your help!
Could be, but I don't remember its face being very blue, and the poor thing is long gone.
Or as you felt... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Dragonfly_Common_Green_Darner_Female_Anax_junius_2010-04-18.jpg
Can be a Blue face Darner. http://www.greglasley.net/nonBirds/bluefacedarn.html
Could it be a Common Green Darner (Anax junius)? It was very large.
Here's another citizen science project for dragonfly lovers: http://thedragonflywoman.com/the-dragonfly-swarm-project/
I think you're right that it was dying... beautiful picture, though.
