Field Notes

Description:

3-4 cm sized Cikada. Two different individuals are photographed here, but they were fond in the same place at alsmost the same time.

Habitat:

Dense vegetation/bush in a bushcamp at night.

Notes:

#3 and #4 shows a cikada sitting on my hand. It sat there for ten good minutes before taking off. Could not take many pictures of it though, since it was in the middle of a dance show around a camp fire... Mkhaya Game Reserve

Thank you and indeed a good idea! I will do a little bit of reasearch myself first, there are only 150-ish species of them in Southern Africa.
Tina Nice one :-). Have a look at this website, unfortunately there are no photo's. http://www.ru.ac.za/static/departments/zoo/Martin/cicadidae.html Maybe you can e-mail the author for an ID.
