It's scary that on sites such as Rogers Mushrooms, the taste of even deadly fungus is described... bold mycologists!
They've been used as fire starters and razor strops and as a sort of sponge to stop bleeding. Some sources list old midicinal uses, so it's probably safe in small doses. They're so woody and dry it would probably be difficult to ingest enough to be toxic. The Wiki article says it has an acrid taste, so someone has tried to eat it at least once!
Haha anytime, but without Scott I'd of been clueless. :) Why do you ask if it's poisonous? I hope you don't say that you ate it. x)
http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34648&page=1 From what I'm finding there, it doesn't seem to be poisonous or deadly. People have made it into hats and gloves before, so it must be reasonably safe to handle.
It's a polypore/bracket fungus I believe. Exact species will require some more details. It's a nice shot, blends in with the tree. :)
