Description:

Thanks to Eric Noora for the ID... I think these ants are interesting looking, but tend to be cautious with them because they bite.

Habitat:

High desert, northern New Mexico.

Glad to help textless. This is actually the soldier ant or major worker ant :-)
You're right Textless. Its a bigheaded ant. Have a similar spotting which I am about to post as well. Yours is much clearer though :-)
