if you don't live in too urban an area, you could always try your garden or in a nearby park(nature/garden variety not sport). ^_^ i find tons of sleeping insects in Hong Kong Park at night, and that's nestled in one of the busiest and most dense urban skyscraper areas in the world~ http://g.co/maps/aaagr
Thanks for the tip Benji...in this case I doubt I would hike to the top of a mountain trail in the dark...but I have been thinking about trying to get some shots in the dark.
nice~ if you want an easier time shooting these, from similar species i suggest looking for them with a flashlight at night under broadleaf trees as they sleep upside down under leaves and they're fairly heavy sleepers so you should be able to go in with a macro lens as long as you don't jiggle the leaf.
