Field Notes

Description:

Star like fungus with a ball resembling the earth in the centre of the petals.

Habitat:

Pacific temperate rain forest. Found along the trail from Mission Heritage Park to Westminster Abbey.

Notes:

I was looking for my current favourite - slime molds - when I came across this beauty. It has been chewed on here and there but still a great find for me as I never expected to find one. I looked further in the area but didn't find anymore,
Oct 19, 2011 Went back today and took the 3rd picture which shows the petals curled under as the fungus ages.
