Field Notes

Description:

This is two different rattlesnakes, the first one, with the copperhead, I caught them for the 4H fair, and after that all three snakes ended up at the Brown County State Park, nature center. Not harmed and eventially released back to the wild.

Habitat:

In Indiana they live in the hilly forested southern parts of our state. They are ambush predators and unlike the common thought, they do not always buzz a warning. In the woods the buzz is similiar to that of a cicado. Their temperment is rather mild and unless molested they are not aggressive. Today they are a protected species and not very abundant.

There are just a couple things I'm terrified of seeing while hiking with my children and this is one of them
