Field Notes

Description:

The top of the wings is metallic blue while the undersides are checkerspotted and grayish-brown. The wingspan is 2.2 to 3.2 cm (0.87 to 1.3 in). Caterpillars feed on Albizia species.

Habitat:

Is a species of butterfly in the family Riodinidae that is native to North America. It ranges from the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas in the United States south to Honduras and inhabits subtropical forests, forest edges, and agricultural areas.

Riodinidae, Lasaia sula. Can't tell you if Lasaia sula sula (Western Mexico to Costa Rica) or Lasaia sula peninsula (Eastern Mexico). I would tend to Peninsula, but Sula is enough ;-)...
