Description:

A short eared brown rabbit

Habitat:

I found it along the grassy areas behind the beach at Siesta Key beach, Florida.

Ahh yes indeed it is! Awesome, thanks guys! Yeah Marsh Rabbit fits much better, Florida area only, near water, and the small ears. We were kinda close Peter, "similar in appearance to the eastern cottontail (Sylvilagus floridanus) but is characterized by smaller ears, legs, and tail."
I will gladly defer to the more local id's.....we have the Eastern Cottontail as the only rabbit in my neck of the woods. We do have the Snowshoe Hare that is much bigger too!
This is a Marsh Rabbit, Sylvilagus palustris. The ears are too small to be a cottontail, and the tail is brown. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sylvilagus_palustris
Yeah you could be right Peter, I imaged searched and looks like it, especially with the white fur along the jaw. Thanks
Tough to tell for sure but it is probably a Cottontail Rabbit.....
