Field Notes

Description:

There were a number of individuals all found along the Rio Tempisque in Palo Verde National Park. The larger individuals measured around 4m, and the smaller ones around 2m. They were all basking in the sun on the muddy river banks during the mid morning.

Habitat:

The habitat of American crocodiles includes a broad range of aquatic environments. They inhabit freshwater, including rivers, lakes and reservoirs, and can also be found in brackish environments, such as example estuaries and swamps.
