Description:
Dark gray back and head, dark brown eye, two pale wing bars, short legs, and a slight crest.
Habitat:
Open woodlands, forest edges, and beside rivers and other water bodies.
Notes:
Wood-pewees love to perch on bare branches so as not to obscure their vision when hunting for flying insects and also to avoid branches that may come between them and flying insects. They will repeatedly fly 5-10 feet from a branch to catch an insect, then return to the branch. This behavior can sometimes increase the chances of getting a photograph since, many times, the bird will give you more than one chance on the same perch.
