Description:

Female is predominantly black, unlike the yellow males

Habitat:

Hiking trail at small State Park in SW Pennsylvania

Notes:

These four butterflies were in almost constant motion either on the ground or slightly above it. The males seemed to be trying to get the females attention while she played hard to get.

It looks like the dark butterfly in this image is a Spicebush Swallowtail rather than a female Tiger Swallowtail. http://bugguide.net/node/view/2648
