Field Notes

Description:

Baby bush katydid nymph cricket. This one is one very young nymph of the Bush Katydids (Scudderia).

They are not grasshoppers because they have very long antennae. Young katydid nymphs are roughly similar in shape to the adults, but they are smaller and often brighter colored or differently patterned than the usually green or brown adults, and they lack the adult's wings and other characteristics.

The striped antennae of the nymphs are quite distinctive. Adults are green, well camouflaged insects that resemble Grasshoppers but with long antennae.

Habitat:

Bushes
