Description:
Related to the Mandarin Duck of Asia, the Wood Duck is probably the most striking of all North American ducks. The duck has a white-flecked maroon breast, black bill tip, helmet-like head profile, red eye, and complex white facial markings.
Habitat:
Rivers, streams, creeks, and swampy forestlands.
Notes:
Regularly raises two broods each season--the only waterfowl species known to do this.
