Hickory Tree Ring-barked by Sapsucker - bird
Carya glabra
38.7665, -83.8838
Field Notes
Description:
Hiked through by neighbours forested hillside with him and he pointed out this tree which he assured me was the work of a Sapsucker bird. There is reference to them drilling into maples but he insists this is a Hickory?

Hillside forest in a Kope shale formation (under a limestone layer). An old previous 1930's winery that was closed by the Feds during proibition.
Notes:
Would be interested in any others experiences of this and will attempt to get shots of this bird on the job!
