Field Notes

Description:

Probably the most common hawk in the U.S. Rufous tail, yellowish legs, brownish eye, and white spots on the back. Many times its breast is whitish with a wide band of brown spots going across horizontally.

Habitat:

Open areas and a wide range of habitats.

Notes:

One of the few times I've seen a Red-tailed Hawk actually hover like a Kestrel.
