Description:

I believe this is a wasp. This insect measures over an inch. It's thorax is black but head, antennae, limbs, wings and abdomen mustard. It was taking shelter from the heavy rains and strong coastal cliff winds.

Look through Spider Wasps (Family Pompilidae) of your area, maybe obe like this Batozonellus sp. http://www.qm.qld.gov.au/Find+out+about/Animals+of+Queensland/Insects/Wasps+and+bees/Common+species/Spider+Wasps Although, I'm sure someone will provide an ID on here shortly.
