Field Notes

Description:

3-5 ft.tall, with oval, round-toothed leaves. Orange with black spots, trumpet shaped flowers hang from their stem like a jewel on a necklace.
Blooms May-Oct. on the Eastern part on North America, from southern Canada to Northern Florida.

Habitat:

It is most often found near poison ivy or stinging nettle. It likes moist wooded areas and does not grow well in dry places or direct sun.

Notes:

It is use as a natural poison ivy preventive and treatment.
Poultices and salves from Jewelweed have been also use for bruises, burns, cuts, eczema, insect bites, sores, sprains, warts and ringworm.
