Field Notes

Description:

Apparently this spider is the most known orb weaver. Is also know as cross spider, because has a kind of cross pattern on the abdomen.
the spider is usually full of eggs in autumm, this is why I think she is pregnant.

Notes:

This spider became my friend in a weird way. She is outside my kitchen window and I observe her behaviours.
I through a dead wasp in her web (picture 1) and I saw how fast she came from where she was hidden and formed a silked trap around the wasp. AMAZING!!

She is growing bigger every day and I believe she is pregnant.
Is the same spider as before but this time I threw a dead cricket in her web and I think that didn't work because she didn't eat it.(picture 2)

Did you know that in 1973 they send 2 of this spiders Anita and Anabella to space aboard the Skylab 3 ? Was an experiment to see if they could build a web in a place without gravity, and they did it. Then they died because they couldn't find any insects.
