Description:

Burr-liking flower/seed heads on this grassy "weed" - kind of large. The "burrs" were maybe thimble-sized.

Habitat:

Growing on the bank of the C&O Canal.

Hi Ann - thanks for the suggestion! I think that's on the right track, but the one you linked to is a bit smaller than the one I posted, and the seedheads are slightly different. But now I know what the smaller ones I've found in yards are! :)
