Field Notes

Description:

Spawning Salmon, running up-stream to spawning grounds from Lake Ontario.

Habitat:

Normally Lake Ontario / Atlantic Ocean

Notes:

I went to one of the local creeks to see if the Salmon and other fish would be running yet as it's fall spawning season for the fish. I happened to get to the location right on time, as this Salmon was running through the extreme shallows on it's journey to the place of it's birth. Often I am only accompanied by my fishing pole. However this year I decided a different approach and took my camera instead. Stay tuned for more in this series as the spawn lasts several weeks, and you can bet I will be out there trying to capture that perfect shot!

I spent several days gathering the follow up shots. Had a blast every single time out. It's quite exciting watching them come up stream. The build up and anticipation, waiting to see which side of the stream they are going to choose, and how they will come through the faster and shallower water.

Keith, It's an awesome thing to see, we have several streams and tributaries in the area that are small to large, where you can see the Salmon Breaching as they come up to their spawning grounds. I really feel blessed to live in an area where this occurs.
That must have been interesting to witness in person!
