Field Notes
Description:
Length, 3-7". Flat body and tail, with distinctive black bars on underside near tail. Blue to green patch on belly; slate gray with numerous small black, brown or gray flecks on top. No ear openings, long legs.
Habitat:
This one spotted at the evilleta National Wildlife Refuge in central New Mexico. Rocky and sandy desert; the northern reach of the Chihuahuan Desert. Three subspecies, but cannot find any information on what distinguishes them.
Notes:
Tail wags when alerted. Seemed to slightly change color (lighter) when surprised and fleeing.
