Description:

A small and rather unnoticeable "weed", until you look closely to see the beautiful little flower, covered in glandular trichomes, along with the sepals and buds.

A park near a canal

Excellent - thank you! Here's another photo I found Googling that name just now that shows the trichomes and the same leaf shape as mine: http://www.delawarewildflowers.org/plant.php?id=1252&mode=C I hope our postings of such things here are helping the folks who care to track such things! :) Thanks so much for your help - I really like knowing the names of things.
That's Tokiwa-haze. i just noticed this plant growing on the UMass Amherst campus last week and it took me forever to I.D.it. I'll be posting my spotting at some point. Even though it's an introduced "weed" it's still interesting to see some of the same inconspicuous plants spotted in different parts of the country, or world.
