Field Notes

Description:

About 2mm in size. A juvenile salticidae. Very hard to spot, harder to photograph. Transparent orangish body color. Stripes on the legs.

Habitat:

Tropical forest and garden areas.

Notes:

Any help with the particular ID is appreciated! At a size of 2mm it was one of the toughest of my spottings. The vision system looked well developed compared to its size. One of the snaps revealed the difference in coloration of the anterior median eyes.

DenaDaleCrain~ Thanks for the appreciation but I'm not sure about the later part you've mentioned. I have been photographing jumping spiders for about two years now and many a times I've taken them on my fingers or encountered them accidentally. In most of the cases they try to flee away for a while and they get bored. Then they'll curiously look at me, try to figure out what I want from them and most likely they'll jump on my hand on their own. Some of the species are so co-operative that they'll just keep waiting at one spot until I finish photographing them. All this while I've never had a single bite or any hostile gesture from them. There venom might well be ugly but I must admit it was never for me. I guess I am really lucky or they really love me or may be the way I approach them never seems threatening to them. Still, I thank you for your concern and the warning!
Great photo, and cute spider as well, but watch out! They BITE! We have them in Kenya, and if you leave them alone, they are happy to jump out of your way. Threaten them and you'll end up with a nasty scar that takes a long time to heal--ugly venom these guys have!
I am probably the last spider lover on Earth, but this is an adorable spotting! :)
She looks so adorable. All she needs is a ribbon in her hair!!
Thanks everyone! S/he really was cute! I'm guessing it was a she from the look of its abdomen and the density of sensory hair on its head. @Emma~ Sure.. :-)
he is cute! Put the 3rd picture first!
