Field Notes

Description:

Absolutely beautiful and rather large spider we saw this morning while hiking. Abdomen alone was at least an inch from back of head to tip of back end. All in all, she was probably around 2 inches and just as fat as can be, maybe 3/4 of an inch wide!

I have never seen such a spider!

Habitat:

Thick conifer forest.

Notes:

You can see the reddish legs, a grey head and orange fangs (rather large at that). I was unable to get a pic of the face and fangs, my camera would not focus on her head, kept focusing on the web! You can just see the fangs folded over in the pics here.
