White-footed Mouse
Peromyscus leucopus
45.0024, -93.1248
Field Notes
Description:
All the Peromyscus mice have white feet, most have white below and are brown above. Their tails are long. Their eyes and ears are larger than the domestic house mouse.
Habitat:
These mice are widely spread and inhabit virtually all habitats across their range. They do invade homes on occasion, but are not the domestic mice that seem more troublesome.
Notes:
This particular individual was on our ground-level deck eating spilled bird seed beneath our bird feeder. We have had these mice come into the house when winter starts to set in, so this little guy may be an unwanted house guest in another month or so.
