Field Notes

Description:

body wide,somewhat flattened.rimmed with long dorsal and anal fins.eyes on left side of body and close together.well developed teeth.color brown-olive with eye spots,but will change to keep the fish camouflaged.blind side white and featureless.

Habitat:

bottom dweller,prefers sandy or muddy bottoms.average weight 2-5 lbs. current world record 22lb.7oz.

Notes:

occurs in the western atlantic ocean from Maine to the Carolinas...notice crescent shaped pupils in eyes...
