Description:

A Polyphemus moth is one of the biggest moths we have. Their wing span is approximately 5 1/2 inches wide. They are brown with a thin white and black line on the wings, and have two bluish circles on their back and two yellowish circles on their upper wings.

Habitat:

Polyphemus Moths are typically found in forest's but can also be found near marshes or parks. This particular moth was found at my moms house on a tree in the mountains of Lovingston, VA.

Notes:

Polyphemus moths got their name from Greek mythology named after "Polyphemus" the cyclops. They are nocturnal creatures only flying at nighttime to avoid predator's.
