Field Notes

Description:

What I think is White Punk Fungus, a bracket polypore, and a wood-rotter. A very fresh-looking specimen growing on She-oak (casuarina). Approximately 10-12 cms in diameter. Reportedly used by Aborigines as a smouldering agent (meaning of word "punk") for transport of fire. Any other ID suggestions would be welcomed.

Habitat:

Boondall Wetlands Reserve - http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/environment-waste/natural-environment/en… The trees in this spotting location are predominantly She-oak (casuarina) and Melaleuca species.

Notes:

Spotted with my PN buddies Shanna Bignell and Pamela Sai. Thank you both for such a wonderful day :-)
