Field Notes

Description:

Soft, fragile, white/buff wood-loving mushroom with white gills and stem offset

Habitat:

on dead alder firewood

Notes:

so much for the firewood! Starting with a mushroom-shot log, it got mixed in with the other firewood and pretty soon there's a wall of oyster mushrooms in the woodshed! The wood is a little punky, though, and won't burn very hot. The stump pictured was shot through with both Pleurotus and honey mushroom (Armilariella mellea)
