Description:
The adult male Carib grackle is 27 cm long with a long wedge-shaped tail, although the latter is not so long as with other grackles. Its plumage is entirely black with a violet iridescence, its eyes are yellow, and it has a strong dark bill. The adult female is 23 cm long, with a shorter tail and brown plumage, darker on the upperparts. Young males are shorter tailed than adult males and have some brown in the plumage. Young females are very similar to the adult females.
Habitat:
These were in our Posada near Tucacas, Morrocoy, Venezuela.
Notes:
These bold birds would steal the dry dog food kernels out of the dog bowls and take them to the pool. There they would hop onto the pool stairs and drop the kernel in the water, they would wait and even turn the kernels around and check. After they were swollen enough they would pick up the kernel again and take it somewhere to eat! They would do this the whole day long whether there were people in the pool or not.
It was LOVELY to watch.
