Field Notes
Description:
Normally I would call this a spider. However, I've learned from this Project Noah that my first guess at insect identification is usually wrong. At any rate, I posted a similar "spider casing" a couple of weeks ago, and was amazed at how rare this was. At least, I'd never seen anything like it before. Since then I've seen a few of these. Any help in ID'ing?
Habitat:
A common feature of this kind of spider web is that it is strung by two major "guy-wires" of webbing among some branches of a pine tree. The other ones i've seen were either in a Yew or another pine tree in southeastern PA USA.
