Field Notes

Description:

brown skink with long silvery-white tail that become more cream-grey as they age

Habitat:

Scrub undergrowth, either under rocks or rotting trees one was found in the shed

Notes:

Though very elusive and usually skittish this one allowed me to get quite close to it.

Oh, I misunderstood. These new pictures of a different individual taken at a different location and/or time represent a different spotting. Doesn't matter that it's the same species. Can you make a new spotting with them? Thanks!

I understand your caution. I am the same way! I don't really have hands on knowledge of this species but found several references that mention Mabuya mabouya sbsp. for Turks & Caicos. (However I often don't suggest subspecies if there appears to be ongoing taxonomic debate at that level). For example the scientific authority JNCC lists the species as occurring on the Ramsar site there (http://jncc.defra.gov.uk/pdf/RIS/UK43001.pdf). Perhaps the forelimb colouration is diagnostic, or maybe variable. I don't know, I'm afraid. Just some background on how I came up with the suggestion. Cheers!

thanks S Frazier for the suggestion its the nearest ive seen to it only two things i have a bit of a hang up on 1 my skink has black forelimbs and on wikipedia they say that skink is endemic to the lesser Antilles I live in the greater Antilles very far from dominica but still i think my spotting is definitely a sub species
