This tiny jumping spider had built it's web inside a rolled up river birch leaf.

Thanks Guys! Ashish, I've added another photo of the similar rolled leaf web I saw earlier for reference (I wasn't fast enough to snap the occupant!) Pretty sure it was the same species though.

Karen your spotting give me idea of spider's variety of housings. I find similar roll of leaf on a shrub plant.

You're right - a nice praying mantis will pose all day. :)

This was the second one I spotted today - the other one had built his web in a rolled up serviceberry leaf. I got a photo of the web but the occupant took one look at me & vanished! This is why I like photographing mantids - they are the most obliging models!

Interesting photos! I recently saw a jumping spider in a rolled up aspen leaf, but wasn't sure if it had built the leaf tunnel or inherited it from some other creature...

It wasn't happy which is why I didn't manage to get very close. I have invested in a macro adaptor for my camera but by the time I managed to screw it on this little guy was long gone!
