Field Notes

Description:

A type of ground squirrel with short legs. The fur is a deep orange brown on the back from the shoulders to the base of the tail. From the shoulders forward over the whole head and the tail the fur is mor gray.

Habitat:

They are familiar in the plains states especially in pastures.I see according to Wiki's map, they don't occur in Omaha, NE, but I'm reasonably sure this is a Richardson's. I've changed my mind and marked it Franklin's.

Notes:

I guess while we have always called them Richardson's ground squirrels doesn't make them Richardson's. I'm going to change it to Franklin's. If I'm in error, I hope someone will "gently" point it out to me. :-)
