Field Notes

Description:

The smallest of the penguins, living on the coasts of Southern Australia and NZ

Habitat:

St Kilda Beach pier

Notes:

Every evening they come in to their burrows on the rocky jetty. Hundreds of people come to watch. This is a no light, no flash zone,: red lights excepted.

Photos taken handheld on a "night setting" and then lightened in photoshop

We took the tram from our hotel to Kt Kildas - I highly recommend the excursion. We got to chatting with a teen and her mum at the airport. When the girl found out there were penguins at St Kilda's she made her mum promise they'd go see them as soon as they got home!
